VOLATILE(Primary mem):

            When power is off the data is gone... e.g. RAM(buffer)...& ROM

 

PERMENENT(SECONDARY MEM/AUXILIARY STORAGE):

    Not dependent on power, e.g., Hard disk... Also have following types...

[     MAGNETIC DISKS:

            Data is stores in binary code as magnetic spots it’s of two types...

            A. FIXEDàe.g. HD

B. INTERCHANGEABLEàe.g. FD(1.44" , 5.25"), ZIP DISK(4"  100 Mb), X         DRIVE(2/3")...

[     MAGNETIC TAPES:

            A:- Audio & vidio tape cassettes...

            B:- Tape catridgh(1/2", 1/4")...

[     OPTICAL DISKS:

            Use laser tech to read data...

            A:- RO (Read Only)

            B:- CD WORM (Written once Read many times)

            C:- CD RW (Re writable)

 

I/O DEVICES

            Functions both as input & output... e.g. FAX/Modem card, Terminal, Touch Sensitive Screen
